Looking after it

None. Recycled plastic needs no treatment. If a section lifts after a hard frost, tap it back down and add an anchor.

Bends To Any ShapeCurves, corners and winding paths, no cutting
100 Percent RecycledAnd fully recyclable at the end of its life
No Digging RequiredPlastic anchors hold it without a trench
Will Not RustPlastic, so nothing to corrode or stain paving

The one that bends to any shape, from 100 percent recycled plastic.

Lightweight and flexible, with plastic anchors. Two face heights, no digging required.

This is the flexible option. Where steel takes a gentle curve, plastic follows whatever shape you lay it in.

Made from 100 percent recycled plastic, and fully recyclable when you eventually take it up.

It installs without digging a trench. The plastic anchors hold it, and it is easy to lift and re install if you change the bed.

Two face heights: 5 cm for a lawn edge, 10 cm where you are holding back bark or gravel.

It is the least expensive edging we sell, and for curved beds it is often also the right one.

Plastic Garden Edging Kit 5 cm (per metre)

Every material in this range trades something. Steel gives you a crisp permanent line and asks you to accept that it is stiff. Plastic gives up the crispness and gives you shape in return.

Plastic Garden Edging Kit 5 cm (per metre)

That matters more than people expect. A bed with a tight curve, a tree ring, a winding path: these are shapes 1.5 mm steel simply will not follow without being cut and rejoined at every change of direction. Flexible plastic lays into the curve and stays there.

Plastic Garden Edging Kit 5 cm (per metre)

It is made from 100 percent recycled plastic and is fully recyclable at the end of its life, which for a product that will sit in soil for years is worth knowing.

Plastic Garden Edging Kit 5 cm (per metre)

The no dig installation is the other practical advantage. Steel edging wants a clean trench with a firm face. This is held by its anchors, so you can lay it, peg it and be finished in an afternoon without cutting a line first.

Plastic Garden Edging Kit 5 cm (per metre)

Being easy to lift is part of the same story. It re installs without damage, which suits a garden that is still being worked out rather than one that is finished.

Plastic Garden Edging Kit 5 cm (per metre)

The honest limits: it will not take the abuse that 1.5 mm steel will, so it is not the choice against a driveway or where a heavy mower rides the edge, and a black plastic line is a more visible product than a black steel one. If you want the edge to disappear, the black steel is the better answer. If you want the bed shape to be exactly the shape you drew, this is.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and a further 14 days to send it back in resaleable condition. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the edging made from?

100 percent recycled plastic, and it is fully recyclable at the end of its life.

How flexible is it?

Flexible enough to follow tight curves and tree rings without cutting. That is the main reason to choose it over steel.

Do I need to dig a trench?

No. It installs without digging, held by plastic anchors.

What face heights are available?

Two: 5 cm and 10 cm. Choose 5 cm for a lawn edge and 10 cm to hold bark or gravel.

Is there a minimum order?

No. Order the number of metres your run needs.

Does it come with anchors?

The kit is supplied with plastic anchors. Extra spiral pegs are sold separately in the accessories range.

Will it rust?

No. It is plastic, so there is nothing to corrode and nothing to stain paving.

How does it compare with the steel edging?

Steel gives a crisper, more permanent line and takes far more abuse. Plastic gives you shape and a lower price. For a curved bed, plastic is often the better tool.

Can I use it against a driveway?

We would not recommend it where a vehicle wheel or a heavy mower rides the edge. Use the 1.5 mm black steel or corten there.

Will a strimmer damage it?

A strimmer line will mark plastic over time, more than it marks steel. Keep the line off the face where you can.

Can I take it up and reuse it?

Yes, and it re installs without damage, which is one of its advantages over a fixed installation.

Will it go brittle in the sun?

No UV rating is published for this item, so we will not claim one. Most of the profile sits at or below soil level.

What happens in a hard frost?

Ground heave can lift any edging slightly. If a section rises, tap it back down and add an anchor.

Can I cut it?

Yes, plastic cuts easily with a saw or heavy shears, though the point of a flexible profile is that you rarely need to.

Is it suitable for a tree ring?

Yes, and it is one of the shapes steel struggles with. A full circle in flexible plastic is straightforward.

Does it stop grass creeping into a bed?

It gives roots a physical barrier at the edge, which slows creep considerably. Nothing stops determined running grasses entirely without a deeper barrier.

What colour is it?

Black.

How visible is it once installed?

Set at the right height it reads as a thin dark line. It is more visible than black steel, which tends to disappear against dark soil.

Can I use it on a slope?

Yes. Flexibility helps here too, since it follows changes in level without stepping.

Will it hold gravel?

The 10 cm height will hold gravel and bark. The 5 cm is a lawn edge rather than a retaining profile.

Is it strong enough for a raised bed?

No. It is an edging strip, not a retaining structure, and plastic in particular should not be asked to hold a weight of soil.

How do I work out how many metres I need?

Lay a hose along the line you want, measure it, and round up to the next whole metre.

Can I install it on my own?

Yes. It is light, needs no trench, and is the easiest edging in this range to fit single handed.

Is it safe around children and pets?

There is no cut steel edge, which makes it the gentler option underfoot. Drive the anchors fully home.

How long will it last?

No lifespan is published for this item, so we will not put a number on it. Plastic does not corrode, which is its durability advantage over coated steel.

Can I paint it?

Paint does not adhere well to recycled plastic profiles. We would not recommend it.

Is it the cheapest edging you sell?

Yes, at EUR 7 per metre for the 5 cm it is the least expensive per metre option in the range.

Does it come with a guarantee?

No specific product guarantee is offered on this item. Your statutory rights under EU consumer law apply, including the 14 day right to change your mind.

Can I mix it with steel edging in the same garden?

Plenty of people do: steel on the straight formal runs, plastic around the curved beds and tree rings.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery is Europe wide and takes 5 to 7 days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling and processing time. A tracking number is emailed when the order ships.

Plastic Garden Edging, also listed as plastic lawn edge or plastic grass edging, sold by Steel Edging Company at steeledging.eu.com, warehouse pick codes garden-edging-(5cm) black at EUR 7 per metre and garden-edging (10cm) black at EUR 10 per metre. A lightweight flexible edging made from 100 percent recycled plastic and fully recyclable, in black, supplied with plastic anchors and installed without digging a trench, sold per running metre with no minimum order. Two face heights: 5 cm for a lawn edge and 10 cm for holding back bark or gravel. Its defining property is flexibility: it bends to any shape, so it suits tight curves, tree rings and winding paths that 1.5 mm steel cannot follow without being cut and rejoined at every change of direction. It also installs faster than steel because it needs no cut trench, and it lifts and re installs without damage, which suits a garden still being changed. It is the least expensive edging in this range. Honest limitations: it will not take the abuse 1.5 mm steel will, so it is not the right choice against a driveway or where a heavy mower rides the edge, and a black plastic line reads as a more visible product than black steel, which disappears against soil. No maintenance is needed; if a section lifts after a hard frost, tap it down and add an anchor. Sold as a standard stock item, so the 14 day EU withdrawal right applies in full.
